New Activity Rankings in Place

The new activity rankings are in place. There are now 4 categories that you can earn activity points in. There is also a new position page which will show you the individual category rankings for those above and below you. Please note that you need to surf to re-gain your proper ranking, as the ranking is updated every time you view a page.

The new categories:

Surfing - 10 pts per view
Refering - 200 pts per referal, 2000 cap per week
Purchasing - 100 pts per dollar
Email (reading newsletter) - 500 pts per email, 1500 cap per week

You can only get credit for reading the most recent newsletter, and only once. The caps are in place hopefully to prevent abuse, however if I find users signing up accounts themselves I may have to turn off activity ranking for them altogether.

Work In Progress

I am beginning work on re-building StartXchange's activity point system. The new system will have more detailed statistics and should be faster than the previous system. The downside is today you may see your position change drastically throughout the day. However, once all is said and done this will be much better ;-)

Ooops!

Sorry to everyone who has been getting errors in the winning page, I typo'd and so it was showing an error everytime it was used correctly, instead of incorrectly. It has been fixed now ;-)

Subscribing to Rss

There was a comment posted to my last entry about how to setup rss, and so here is my brief tutorial. It is very easy, but if you've never done it before it can be confusing.

1) You need some kind of Rss Reader. I use Rss Reader. Simply download it, and install it.

2) You need some feeds. This can be the hardest part, but once you identify the common icons used then its a breeze. If you look on this blog at the top right, there is an icon with the number of readers - right click that and select copy shortcut.

3) Add the feed to your reader. With RssReader you just click the +Add icon.

Some feeds are harder to find then others. Sometimes there will just be a link that says "RSS" in it, sometimes there will be that bright orange RSS icon, and sometimes there won't be a link at all.

New features and updates are typically happening quicker than once a week, and I don't want to email everyone on every update.

Mystery Image Removed

After much consideration, the mystery image has been removed. I will be working on ways members can win credits in the near future. Thank you for all the input!

There has been a winner for the Mystery Image already! The winner of 7364 hits is bcborder! I have been receiving input from various people regarding the Mystery Image, and I want to know what you think about it. Would you rather just recieve random prizes than having to click the Mystery Image? Or do you think it is more exciting being able to win yourself?

I'm going to set up another Mystery Image, and hopefully by the time there is a winner for that image, I'll know what the members want. I have no problem with pulling the plug on it, but I don't want to pull the plug if there are a few people who don't like it but a majority that do ;-)
